Background on dog tested on
XinWang, 5yrs, Female Singapore Special with Separation Anxiety and perpetual Demodex Mange. Her anxiety inadvertently causes her demodex mange (a skin issue) to flare up each time she becomes stressed for a period of time. This is because when a dog is stressed, much alike humans, their cortisol level goes up. This stress hormone affects their immune system and when immune system is down, the demodectic mites gets to multiply rapidly. Hence one of my concern is to help her overcome her anxiety as much as I can.
Several days prior, XinWang had a pretty serious case of anxiety. When left alone and her attack sets-on, she chews and claws the main door when she is left alone. After work, my family will sometimes find some puddles of dried saliva and once in a while – blood specks on the floor. Blood is from injured gums or paw pads from constant gnawing or scratching the back of our main door. She doesn’t have these attacks daily. It comes and goes depending on the environment (eg. Renovation in the units nearby or simply Monday blues) Humans are home more often over the weekend and when Monday comes, XinWang panics when everyone leaves for work. Hence when I stumbled upon Ewegurt, an all-natural yogurt food topper that claims to help calm dogs, I did not hesitate to give it a try.
Looks and Smell
Weird (but cute) pink colour. It was not something I am used to associate yoghurt with. It consists of pink powdery flakes with some green flakes. It really reminds me of fish food! Even the smell is somewhat like fish food. Ewegurt yoghurt is made from Sheep’s Milk. There is also sardines and kale contributing to the fish feed smell. The red colour is from beet which is blood purifying and body cleansing.
The Taste Test
The Ewegurt was fed to XinWang in both ways, as it is and rehydrated. When dry, the smell is stronger and XinWang seems to avoid it more. But rehydrated and poured over the food, she doesn’t seem to resist as much. To be honest, she sometimes skirts around the area where the yoghurt is poured over but eventually finishes up all her food without issues so far. The smell is just a light whiff of the ocean. We expected it to smell a little like goat’s milk but it did not. For rehydration, Ewegurt was rehydrated with water on a 1:1 basis (ie. 2 tablespoon of powder mixed with 2 tablespoon of water).
XinWang was fed once a day mainly in the mornings as that is the time I need help to “calm” down. Usually she was fed breakfast and then 30-45mins later I would leave for work. Ewegurt’s calming effect will take 45minutes to work, so you should feed in advance prior to stressful situations. It has been slightly over 10 days as I write this. So far after feeding Ewegurt daily, there was only about 3 days that my family and myself came home to slight saliva pools. It seems to have helped a little. We hope that this will help her in the long run and will consider continuing feeding Ewegurt. Poop wise, she hasn’t had much problems before and after this trial so status quo for poop conditions. And no, the beet did not make her poop red.
Being a very natural product, we fed Ewegurt with ease of mind. Although all the ingredients used are beneficial in more ways than one, if your pet has food allergy issues or very sensitive stomachs, please consult your vet prior to feeding Ewegurt.
